There are three things that make this pen something we had to bring to the UK. It has classic styling; uses a very well-liked extra-fine gel refill we already stocked; and it’s amazingly good value.
The styling is a classic look. Metal upper barrel in brushed steel, with a practical metal clip and polished metal retract button. A little polished metal at the tip adds to the look, as well as making the tip stronger. The lower barrel is plastic, with a choice of colours to add a bit of extra character if you want it, or stick with plain black for a more understated look.
The refill is the OHTO PG-105NP, which is very well-liked by those who enjoy a smooth fine line. It’s an extra-fine tip, with gel ink for a smooth, dense line. OHTO’s gel ink dries quickly. It’s a great refill, making the pen really nice to write with. It does take standard ‘Parker-style’ G2 refills, so you could change to any one of a huge number of other refills, but you may find many of them would cost more than this pen! That brings us to our third point…
It’s amazingly good value. OHTO have made a pen that writes nicely, looks good, and feels nicely made, with metal where it’s needed for strength and durability; yet somehow it’s around the same price as many disposable or semi-disposable plastic pens. Then they gave it a name that sounds like a 1950s American dry cleaner.
